Demartek to Present SSD and FCoE technologies at the Storage Decisions Conference in September 2010
29 July 2010
Dennis Martin, President of Demartek, will present two sessions at the Storage Decisions Conferences in New York, September 20-21, 2010. These sessions are:
- Monday, September 20, 1:15 p.m.: A Practical Guide to Fibre Channel over Ethernet
- Tuesday, September 21, 9:00 a.m.: Deep Dive on SSD
Dennis will also be participating in the "Ask the Experts" sessions—free one-on-one consultative sessions where expert presenters are available to answer your questions. Dennis will be available on Monday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
The updated versions of these presentations will be given at the Storage Decisions Conference in San Francisco on November 4, 2010.
A Practical Guide to Fibre Channel over Ethernet
Could an IT shop use Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) right now? In this nuts-and-bolts session, we’ll provide an overview of the new infrastructure components you’ll need and an assessment of the enterprise readiness of the technology. We’ll discuss where it is right now, what products are available, how it fits into an existing architecture and under what circumstances you should consider it. Other topics to be covered include:
- Cabling, converged network adapters, switches, and storage
- Current state of vendor support
- Storage architecture approaches to FCoE
- Update on Data Center Bridging standards
Deep Dive on SSD
This is an in-depth look at the architectures and technologies of solid state storage devices. The presentation will describe solid state in detail, and compare solid state with traditional magnetic media. In addition, Dennis will include some of the results from his solid state storage performance testing of Microsoft applications in the Demartek lab. Among the topics discussed are:
- DRAM vs. NAND Flash
- How NAND Flash Works
- SLC vs. MLC and smaller nanometer technologies
- Bad Block Management, Wear-leveling & other error management techniques
- Optimal I/O workloads for SSDs
- Trends in SSD solutions from the vendors
- Demartek Lab Performance Comparisons
